Best Waterproof Fitness Trackers

Fitness Tracking

Some might have thought of fitness trackers as a fad when they first started to gain popularity a couple of years ago, but now it’s hard to imagine working out or going for a walk without knowing how many steps you’ve taken, your heart rate, and getting a general oversight into our health.

While many have lots of snazzy features, there are still a lot on the market that aren’t waterproof. So, if you’re a keen swimmer or simply don’t want to need to take your wearable off every time there’s a downpour or before you hop in the shower, which fitness tracker should you go for? Here’s a roundup of the best waterproof options:

Garmin Swim

If swimming is the only exercise you do, or you already have a fitness tracker that isn’t waterproof but want to measure your swimming, the Garmin Swim could be just for you! Unlike other fitness trackers, the Garmin Swim is only useful for swimming.

As well as being water-resistant to 50m, this nifty watch counts distance, how many strokes you take per lap, and average pace. For accurate measurements, you can input the length of the pool.

Moov Now

For a cheap price tag, you get a lot with the Moov Now tracker. It doesn’t have GPS or a screen but don’t let that put you off!

Its battery lasts up to six months and the accompanying app gives you a breakdown of your laps, times, distance, pace and strokes. It also has built-in coaching to provide users with metrics to improve on swimming, rather than simply giving the data.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro

The Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro is on the more expensive side, but it’s one of the best fitness trackers out there if you do a range of workouts.

It is compatible with iOS and Android, has a heart rate tracker, has a decent battery life, syncs to your Spotify account with offline Spotify support, and is waterproof up to 50m. Samsung also teamed up with Speedo to create the swim training app Speedo On, providing users with in-depth analysis of their swims and offers swim plans, training videos, and tips and advice to help progression.

Garmin Vivoactive 3

If you’re put off by the sporty design of a lot of fitness trackers, Garmin Vivoactive 3’s watch-like design should be more up your street – making it look suitable in the meeting room and in the gym.

This sporty smartwatch has a 5 ATM waterproof rating and can handle depths of 50m. The swimming screen in Garmin Connect provides a lot of information, covering data such as distance, time, stroke, SWOLF, temperature, pace, speed and more. And you can view all of that in real-time as you swim. It is worth noting, however, that it doesn’t have open water swimming support, so if you spend most of your time out in the sea or in lakes, you might want to consider another option.
